Police track down hit-and-run driver after fatal Jalan Kuching crash

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have tracked down the driver of a BYD Seal involved in a six-vehicle crash that killed a five-year-old girl and injured two others on Jalan Kuching.

The accident occurred at 3.44pm on Saturday along the road heading towards Segambut from the city centre .

The girl, who was seated in the rear passenger seat of a Perodua Bezza driven by her 30-year-old father, died from severe head injuries while being taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, said the accident involved five cars and a motorcycle during slow-moving traffic.

"Initial investigations found that the Perodua Bezza driven by the victim's father was hit from behind by a BYD Seal.

"The collision also involved a motorcycle before the victim's car spun into the right lane and struck three other vehicles — a Nissan Almera, a Toyota Alphard multipurpose vehicle and a Perodua Myvi," he said in a statement.

Zamzuri said the girl's father sustained injuries to his right hand, while the 33-year-old Yamaha 135LC motorcyclist suffered head injuries.

Both were treated at HKL.

He said police had tracked down the BYD Seal driver, who was reported to have left the scene shortly after the crash.

"The 24-year-old driver is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Damansara for a concussion.

"The suspect remains under the supervision of the investigating officer as investigations continue," he said.

Meanwhile, the other three people involved in the crash — the 28-year-old Nissan Almera driver, the 37-year-old Toyota Alphard driver and the 30-year-old Perodua Myvi owner — escaped unhurt.

Zamzuri said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

He urged members of the public and witnesses with information about the crash to assist investigations by contacting the Tun H S Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or any nearby police station.
