LTO issues SCO vs van driver for dangerous driving, pointing gun at motorists

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show cause order (SCO) and suspended the license of the driver of a van for dangerous driving and pointing a gun at a motorist.

"Based on the video, the van driver can be seen driving dangerously while pointing a gun at another motorist. It can also be seen that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt while driving, which is also a clear violation of established road safety regulations," according to the statement posted by LTO.

The LTO said the violations included in the SCO are reckless driving, seatbelt violation, and Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.

The license of the driver will be subject to a 90-day preventive suspension. He was ordered to immediately surrender it to the Office of the Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID).

The van was also placed on alarm while investigation is ongoing.

The individuals involved in the incident are required to appear before the IID at the LTO Central Office on Friday, September 25, 2026. The parties were also informed that they submit a sworn statement or explanation and relevant original documents.

"The road is not a place for violent behavior and gun violence. When we drive, we are not only thinking about ourselves but also the safety of other motorists. We will not tolerate this kind of dangerous driving and intimidation and those who commit it will be held accountable," said Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao. — BAP, GMA News
