Juventus had to settle for a frustrating 1-1 draw away against Cagliari in Serie A on Sunday evening, and there are two statistics that encapsulated the performance on the night.

Stats show Juventus poor in front of goal and away from home

Juventus fell behind to a 20th-minute strike from the in-form Daniel Maldini, scoring in his fourth consecutive Serie A match, and it took them until the 81st minute to come up with a response through Kolo Muani, netting his first Serie A goal since his permanent return to the club over the summer.

The fact that it took Juventus 21 shots with 70% of the possession to come up with one goal is the statistic that pundits, newspapers and supporters have been pointing to after the stalemate against Cagliari.

Juventus had almost complete control of the ball for the vast majority of the second half, but struggled to break down a well-organised and disciplined Cagliari block, and often resorted to testing Elia Caprile with pop shots from distance. 11 of those 21 shots ended up off target.

Frustration was certainly the theme of the night for the Bianconeri, summed up when head coach Luciano Spalletti was sent off shortly after the full-time whistle, along with his Cagliari counterpart Fabio Pisacane, after an argument on the touchline while coming together for their customary post-match handshake.

Aside from his side’s inability to convert their shots into goals, Spalletti has also faced criticism in the Italian press on Monday for his side’s away record so far in 2026-27: The Bianconeri have picked up seven points at home so far this campaign, plus a 5-0 thumping of NEC in the Europa League, but have only picked up four points from a possible nine on the road, including just one point from their last two away games against Cagliari and Sassuolo. Another area to improve.
