The future of Doctor Who is in some doubt at the moment, after the BBC put the show on hiatus ahead of finding a new production partner for the show. That process is expected to be completed by March 2027, so don't expect to be watching any new episodes until at least 2028, or even 2029 depending on the scale of its ambition.

Even with that in mind, Doctor Who remains very popular as an entity, and those in charge of the franchise are continuing to capitalize on that feeling with additional releases, beyond new media. Now, the latest of those is available for pre-order, and it's absolutely one that collectors will want to be aware of.

Over on the Master Replicas website, you should be able to find the Doctor Who Battles in Time: Circuit Breaker Limited Edition Collector's Set. If you aren't familiar with Battle in Time more generally, it is an official sci-fi trading card game that has become genuinely extensive over the years.

This latest release is centered on Jo Martin's Fugitive Doctor, who remains one of the best original creations for the more recent series of the show. The description for the new release reads as follows:

"The Fugitive Doctor. UNIT. The Black Archive. One all-new Battles in Time adventure. Circuit Breaker is a special collector's set of 15 all-new foil cards. Only 750 will ever be made, so once they're gone, they're gone.

"Reluctantly working with UNIT, the Fugitive Doctor is sent to return objects from the Black Archive and seal tears in reality. Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, Petronella Osgood and Andrew Turner join her, as a corrupted Weeping Angel, the Conductor, the Silence and Daleks from Skaro stand in their way."

The full list of of included features for the set is also extensive, and it takes away a lot of the RNG that is often associated with releases such as this one:

  • 15 all-new cards, all printed on silver foil
  • Every card is guaranteed in the set, so there's no hunting through packs
  • Key companions appear in Battles in Time for the first time
  • Monsters old and new: Corrupted Angel, the Conductor, the Silence, Lilith, Shock Trooper and a Dalek Drone
  • Includes The Resistor, a special action card that removes a card from your opponent's deck

As mentioned earlier, it's currently available to pre-order at the very reasonable price of $29.99, though you should be aware that there will only ever been 750 of these sets, so you'll need to move relatively quickly to secure your own. Shipping is expected to go ahead this month, so you won't have too long to wait either. It also gives us some nice shiny Doctor Who merch to look at in the absence of new programming.
