The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kano State Command, has arrested a 27-year-old man, identified as Yusuf Abdulrazaq, for allegedly impersonating an officer of the Corps.

A statement released on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, on behalf of the State Commandant, Mohammed Agalama, said the suspect was apprehended while allegedly parading himself as an Assistant Superintendent of Corps 1.

“The suspect, identified as Yusuf Abdulrazaq, was apprehended at Rimin Auzinawa village, Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State, while allegedly parading himself as an Assistant Superintendent of Corps I (ASC I), a two-star officer purportedly serving at the State Command Headquarters,” the statement said.

It added that preliminary findings indicated that the suspect allegedly engaged in tracking stolen mobile phones but used the process to extort unsuspecting members of the public.

The State Commandant, Commandant Mohammed Agalama, warned members of the public to be vigilant and verify the identity of anyone claiming to be an NSCDC operative, particularly individuals demanding money under questionable circumstances.

The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining public confidence, and ensuring that individuals who impersonated security personnel or engaged in criminal activities are brought to justice.

According to the statement, the suspect was currently in custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The command urged members of the public to report suspicious activities and cooperate with security agencies to enhance public safety.
