AFCON 2027Q: Tanzania To Storm Uyo Sunday For Super Eagles Showdown

Translate

Tanzania’s Taifa Stars are expected to arrive in Uyo on Sunday as preparations intensify for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying encounter against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

According to The Citizen, the early arrival will give head coach Miguel Gamondi sufficient time to prepare his team ahead of the crucial Matchday Three fixture.

Gamondi has named a 24-man squad for the upcoming double-header, with Tanzanian league champions Yanga FC and Azam FC providing the largest representation, with five players each. Kagera Sugar and Singida Black Stars have one player apiece in the squad.

The invited foreign-based players include Novatus Miroshi, who plays for Turkish Super Lig side Goztepe, Cyprian Kachewele of Ukrainian club Kryvbas, and Bernard Kamongo of Major League Soccer side FC Dallas.

The Taifa Stars will be eager to revive their qualifying campaign after a disappointing start.

Tanzania opened their campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau before playing out a 1-1 draw against Madagascar in their second match.

Gamondi’s side will take on Nigeria in their Matchday Three encounter at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, November 13.

The two sides will meet again four days later, with Tanzania hosting the return fixture in Dar es Salaam.
