The BBC has dropped the first official trailer for Time season 3.

The upcoming season of Jimmy McGovern's acclaimed prison drama, which revolves around the lives of inmates and staff in UK prisons, is coming to our screens on Sunday 11 October on BBC iPlayer.

Like season 2, the third season will tell a new story and is set in a Young Offenders Institution (YOI), where prison chaplain Marie-Louise O'Dell (Finneran) clashes with custodial manager Bobby Bailey (Tennant), a man “in the midst of his own crisis”, over a "tragedy".

“Bailey knows more about the circumstances that led to this major incident – but will he come clean before the guilt gets too much?” the official synopsis teases.

The trailer gives fans a first look at Bobby's dilemma, as he asks Marie-Louise in the trailer: "What should I do?"

She responds: "I’d say tell the truth."

The third season also follows two teenage young offenders, Peter and James, who’ve recently been incarcerated – the former for the death of an innocent man and the latter for an unforgivable act of violence.

And the footage also gives us a look at these two characters, as a fight breaks out between the boys, and Marie-Louise can be overheard saying: “We can’t keep these boys locked up. How do we expect them to ever be normal if that’s what we do to them”.

Time season 3 will arrive on BBC iPlayer on Sunday 11 October.
