Edo Queens Football Club has accepted the decision of the Confederation of African Football that the outstanding extra time of the WAFU-B final against Ampem FC of Ghana be played on October 29, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt.

In a statement by the club’s media officer, Ojieva Ehiosunhe, the club said the outcome of the appeal was not what it had hoped for.

Ehiosunhe said that after consultations with its Board, the Edo State Government and the Nigeria Football Federation, the team decided to complete the match in the interest of fairness, noting that the team would depart for Cairo on Monday.

The club thanked the Edo State Government and the NFF for their support, guidance and representation throughout the appeal process.

“Our mission remains unchanged: to fight, to win and to secure our place in the CAF Women’s Champions League,” the club said.

Acknowledging the disappointment among supporters, the club said it shared their determination to see the matter decided on the pitch.

“We have chosen to move forward with courage, discipline and resilience,” it added.

Edo Queens also expressed gratitude to its fans and the media for their support during the appeal period, and called on supporters to keep backing the team ahead of the decisive match.

The club said its players and technical crew are focused and ready to represent Edo State and Nigeria with pride.

Recall that Edo Queens defeated Ampem FC of Ghana 4-1 via penalty shootouts after the WAFU B final match in Burkina Faso had ended 2-2 in the 90-minute regulation period.

However, the Ghanaians filed a protest against the referee’s penalty, demanding that the extra time of 30 minutes should have been played before penalties in accordance with the rules of the game. The disciplinary and appeals board of CAF later heard the case and ruled in favour of the Ghana team.
