A fire broke out at the Jinboway facility inside Subic Gateway Park Phase II in the Subic Bay Freeport, but it was placed under control at 5:45 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).

SBMA Communications Head Armie Llamas said the fire spread rapidly, fueled by textile supplies and plastic materials stored at the factory.

Thick smoke blanketed the area as flames engulfed a wide section of the industrial park at around 2:35 a.m.

The fire intensified and spread to a row of buildings across the site before being brought under control.

“We’re still trying to determine which companies were affected,” Llamas said in a phone interview.

“No casualties were recorded since everyone at the site was able to get out,” she added.

Firefighters and emergency responders continued operations, including teams from the SBMA Fire Rescue Team, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Fire and Rescue Bravo Team, and the Bureau of Fire Protection units from Subic and Olongapo.

Authorities have not released further details on the fire’s cause and the extent of the damage./coa
