The Women’s Asia Cup 2026 trophy presentation ceremony has been delayed with winner India yet to receive the title and its winner’s medals.

ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi led the presentation party after the final, which Sri Lanka lost to India by 72 runs.

He even presented Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu the runner-up cheque of USD 15,000. Athapaththu gave an interview to the broadcast after which the post-match presentation ceremony abruptly ended.

The Indian team reportedly refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister, mirroring what happened in the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup where India beat Pakistan in the summit clash.

Controversy had erupted after last year’s men’s Asia Cup final involving India and Pakistan, and the trophy presentation ceremony which followed.

Per protocol, Naqvi is supposed to hand over the coveted trophy to the victorious team. But this did not pan out when India beat Pakistan in the summit clash.

The Indian men’s cricket team celebrated with an imaginary trophy after being denied the Asia Cup winner’s prize despite a five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the final in Dubai.
