Two friends fined GH¢12,000 for stealing

Translate

Two friends have been fined GHS 6,000.00 each by the Nkawie Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region for stealing at Bonteso in the Amansie West District.

Kwame Asare and Bismark Kobby, both unemployed and aged 20, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and stealing and were convicted on their own pleas.

They would serve a three-month prison term each in default of the fine.

Police Sergeant Ernest Derry, the prosecuting officer, told the court, presided over by Mr Robert Addo, that the complainant, Nana Osei Kwadwo, was a businessman and the convicts were both residents of Bonteso.

He said on September 05, 2026, at about 1130 hours, the two friends went to the complainant’s house and stole his excavator engine blade, control board and other items, all valued at GHS 144,000.

The complainant conducted his own investigation, and with the help of some neighbours, the convicts were arrested and handed over to the Ahwerewa police.

In their caution statement, they admitted to stealing and cited hardship at Bonteso as the reason for the theft, claiming that there was “too much hunger in the town,” so they were going to feed on the proceeds from the sale of the stolen items.

They then revealed to the police that the items were sold for GH¢6,500 to one Obolo, who is now at large.
