Unhealthy air quality for 14 areas, mostly in Sarawak

Fourteen areas across the country, including 10 in Sarawak, recorded unhealthy air pollutant index (API) readings as of 9am today.

According to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System portal, the areas in Sarawak with unhealthy API readings were Sibu (178), Sri Aman (169), Mukah (168), IPD Serian (160), Kuching (157), Samalaju, Bintulu, Kapit and Sarikei (all 156) and Samarahan (155).

Unhealthy API readings were also recorded in Putrajaya (151), Shah Alam (109), Nilai (108) and Politeknik Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (103).

Fifty-one areas recorded moderate API readings, while three recorded good air quality.

API readings of 0 to 50 indicate good air quality while readings of 51 to 100 indicate moderate air quality. Readings of 101 to 200 indicate unhealthy air quality, readings of 201 to 300 indicate very unhealthy air quality, and readings of 301 and above indicate hazardous air quality.
