MCU’s New Rogue Actor Confirms Fixing Biggest X-Men Sin From Fox’s Franchise

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is rebooting the mutants as Phase 6 nears its end.

The MCU timeline is building towards the Avengers facing off with Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which will officially bring an end to Phase 6. However, as one journey ends, another one begins, as the X-Men are set to take the spotlight in Phase 7.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Inde Navarrette, who has been tapped to play Rogue in the new X-Men film, was asked if there are any Southern accents she is drawing from for her version of the iconic mutant. The Superman & Lois alum stated, "So, I've never told this publicly, I completely forgot, but I have a divorced family. I grew up in Texas for a good majority of my life," she revealed. "So, honestly, those Southern women are really my favorite. Corpus Christi is the city, specifically. So I just remember, you know, the old Southern women that I really, really love. But, specifically, Mississippi, Rogue is from Mississippi," Navarrette continued. "So, I'm really just — I want to go there. I really want to do her justice."

The last time audience members saw Marie D'Ancanto on the big screen was Anna Paquin's iteration in Fox's X-Men movies, as she reprised her role one last time in the Rogue Cut of X-Men: Days of Future Past. Navarrette will be joined by Sadie Sink's Jean Grey, Kit Connor's Cyclops, Maya Boyd's Storm, Samara Weaving's Emma Frost, along with Christopher Abbott's Professor X and Adam Driver's Mister Sinister.

Lenore Zann, who voices Rogue in X-Men '97, a sequel to X-Men: The Animated Series, shared her love for the MCU star taking on the role in the reboot. Zann stated in an Instagram video, "I just want to give a shoutout to Inde Navarrette, the actress who was just named to play Rogue in the upcoming Marvel movie of the X-Men. I can't wait to meetcha, sugar! I will be coming back to North America in the next month, so I look forward to that day."

Time will tell what other mutants are in the X-Men movie, as principal photography has yet to begin on the Phase 7 installment, which will be directed by Thunderbolts* filmmaker Jake Schreier. The cast recently added Asa Germann as Angel, who is another original founding member of the team from the comics.

The X-Men reboot will be one of many MCU films to arrive in 2028, as Ryan Gosling's Ghost Rider is slated for July 28, while Black Panther 3 is scheduled to open on December 15. While not confirmed by Disney and Marvel Studios yet, Sink is reportedly reprising her role as Jean from Spider-Man: Brand New Day in Avengers: Secret Wars, according to Deadline in 2025.

X-Men is set to open in theaters on May 5, 2028.
