Art fairs in Japan can be intimidating to the uninitiated, but they provide a unique window into the art world.

Usually bringing together hundreds of artists and galleries in one place, art fairs remove the distance, making viewing and comparing various artworks possible. Beyond bridging spaces, they also offer an array of styles and mediums, from pop art to traditional pottery.

This cross section of the art scene is often international with larger events like Art Fair Tokyo, Art Collaboration Kyoto and Art Osaka attracting galleries from around the world, or with a regional or local focus, like in the case of Art Fair Asia Fukuoka, which highlights art from Asian countries.
