Tanush Kotian once again came to Mumbai’s rescue, claiming seven wickets on an unresponsive surface to bowl Railways out for 259 and secure a valuable first-innings lead in the Ranji Trophy Group D fixture.
Fresh from an 11-wicket match haul against Haryana last week, the off-spinner continued his impressive run at the Brabourne Stadium on Wednesday.
Mumbai looked to build on its advantage as Angkrish Raghuvanshi (79, 85b, 10x4, 1x6) and Divyaansh Saxena (68 batting, 114b, 6x4) took the attack to Railways.
The openers added 146 runs, with both scoring half-centuries, before Toufik Mondal struck thrice to trigger a late wobble. Mumbai ended the day at 174 for 4, with an overall lead of 311.
Kotian’s effort was particularly impressive given the lack of assistance from the surface. Recently named in India A’s squad for the Rising Stars Asia Cup, he underlined his value to Mumbai.

Railways resumed at 116 for two, with Mohammad Saif and captain Bhargav Merai looking comfortable. Mumbai waited nearly 45 minutes for its first breakthrough. Suryansh Shedge provided it, inducing an edge from Saif, who was caught at gully by Divyaansh Saxena.
The task looked daunting when Kush Marathe came in as a concussion substitute for the injured Vivek Singh. The pitch offered precious little, and Mumbai still had seven wickets to find.
Kotian, however, changed the complexion of the innings. He had Marathe edging to short-leg, where Raghuvanshi took a sharp catch, before trapping Merai leg-before for 30. Zubair Ali was next, caught by Shedge, as Railways slipped to 183 for six.
After taking one wicket for 12 runs in four overs on Tuesday, Kotian returned with six for 33 in 14.5 overs, including eight maidens.
He completed his five-wicket haul before lunch and kept striking until Railways was bowled out, putting Mumbai in a strong position to push for another outright victory.
