Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park creates over 100,000 jobs: Prabowo

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto said the Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) in Central Halmahera District, North Maluku, has created jobs for more than 100,000 workers.

"Since the development of this area began, workforce absorption has reportedly reached over 100,000 people," Prabowo said during the launch of a downstreaming program at the IWIP area on Thursday.

Broadcast live on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, Prabowo stated that this job creation aligns with growing investments in the natural resource processing hub.

He added that according to a report from Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani, realized investment in the industrial park has reached around US$20 billion, with an additional US$7 billion in planned investments.

During the event, Prabowo launched a US$10.2 billion downstreaming program, marked by the inaugural export of electric vehicle batteries and the kickoff of 11 downstreaming projects.

These projects comprise the commercialization of four industrial projects and the construction of seven new ones in the IWIP area.

According to Prabowo, industrial development and downstreaming are part of efforts to build the national economy by processing Indonesia’s natural resources to benefit the public.

The president also highlighted the importance of ensuring industrial development continues to pay attention to environmental and safety aspects, including safeguarding water and air quality while maintaining optimal waste management.

"We must face our future responsibly for the sake of our children and grandchildren," Prabowo said.

He expressed hope that partnerships and ties with Indonesia's international partners will continue to grow, strengthening bilateral relations and delivering benefits to both Indonesia and partner nations.

"Thank you for your partnership and trust. May our collaboration and friendship bring our nations closer together and yield mutual benefits for our people," Prabowo remarked.
