Emmerdale secret implodes publicly as Mackenzie Boyd fears the worst for Charity Dingle in early ITVX release

Charity Dingle's (Emma Atkins) time behind bars shows no signs of ending in Emmerdale.

The legendary character is locked up for the murder of Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker), her rapist and blackmailer who perished by whacking her head on the corner of a coffee table.

As viewers know, it was actually Charity's granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) who committed the crime, simply pushing Caitlin away and not realising that it would result in her death.

Charity chose to take the blame, feeling she owed the admission to her family after months of lying to them. While trying to act as surrogate for Sarah and her husband Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant), she actually fell pregnant with Ross Barton's (Michael Parr) child.

She then allowed Sarah and Jacob to raise the baby, Leyla, as their own.

When Sarah discovered the truth, the floor fell from beneath their feet. She raced to the station and retracted her statement saying that Charity had killed Todd in self-defence, and implied that it was purposeful.

Over the last week, the Dingle clan have urged Sarah to do the right thing and tell the police she made a mistake. She went to the station again, and was held by DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge), who said she had perverted the course of justice.

In today's episode, Sarah insisted that she'd given an incorrect statement because she was angry with Charity for lying to her.

Meanwhile, in the village, Charity's emotional husband Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) got into a huge argument with Jacob. While sitting either side of a table in a very busy Woolpack, Mack blurted out that Leyla wasn't Sarah and Jacob's child.

Although this isn't new information to Jacob, the other punters and staff were stunned.

Sarah then arrived home and explained that her plan to help Charity hadn't worked. It would likely now be up to a jury to decide whether she was guilty, or not guilty.
