Celebrity Traitors star set to guest host Have I Got News For You

Amol Rajan is returning to the host's chair on Have I Got News for You, stepping in to front episode 4 of the BBC One quiz show.

It marks the second time Rajan has hosted long-running panel show, following his previous stint in October 2024.

Rajan, who hosts BBC Two's University Challenge after taking over from Jeremy Paxman in 2023, is best known to many viewers as a journalist and broadcaster. The guest host role on Have I Got News for You rotates each week, with Rajan now joining the roster of familiar faces who have led the programme since the end of Angus Deayton's permanent tenure.

The new episode will air on Friday 23 October at 9:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The news comes just as Rajan was sent home packing on BBC One's The Celebrity Traitors, after being murdered by the Traitors.

Amol Rajan sat down wearing a black suit and red tie, smiling ahead.

Speaking to Radio Times about the experience, Rajan described being the first celebrity to exit the series "a mixed bag", admitting he was frustrated because he thought he would have made a good Traitor.

He described the chapel scene, where Traitors Richard E Grant and Maya Jama chose to murder him, as "one of the most intense moments of my life". Rajan said he had naively thought he might be recruited rather than killed, recalling that as the coffin lid closed he thought: "Oh my God! The worst has come to pass".

Reflecting on his short stint, he said he had tried to rein in his instinct to ask awkward questions but ultimately felt he had "played the wrong game", conceding he might have made a strong Traitor himself.

Panellists for his Have I Got News for You episode are yet to be confirmed. Regular team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton remain at the heart of the show, with two guest panellists typically joining them alongside the rotating host.

Have I Got News for You is will air on Friday 23 October at 9:30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
