GHS to conduct two rounds of HPV vaccination in schools nationwide

The Ghana Health Service (GHS), in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and its partners, is set to conduct two rounds of the Periodic Intensification of Routine Immunisation (PIRI), focusing on Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, in schools nationwide.
In a statement signed by the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, the Service said the exercise would be conducted under the Periodic Intensification of Routine Immunisation (PIRI), in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), through the School Health Education Programme (SHEP), and its partners.
The campaign, scheduled for October and November/December 2026, aims to raise awareness of the routine HPV vaccine, improve vaccination uptake, and ensure that eligible girls are protected against cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases.
The first round is scheduled for Monday, October 19 to Friday, October 23, 2026, while the second round will take place from Monday, November 30 to Friday, December 4, 2026.
During the exercise, health staff will visit schools across the country to administer the vaccine to eligible girls aged 9 to 14 who have not yet received it.
The initiative is intended to strengthen routine immunisation efforts and increase protection against cervical cancer and other diseases associated with HPV infection.
The Ghana Health Service has called on school authorities, parents, guardians, teachers and community leaders to support the campaign and cooperate with health teams to ensure its successful implementation.

“The Ghana Health Service respectfully calls on all stakeholders, including school authorities, parents, guardians, teachers, and community leaders, to support and cooperate with health teams to ensure the successful implementation of the exercise,” the statement said.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting and promoting the health and well-being of Ghanaians, expressing appreciation for the continued collaboration and support of its partners and stakeholders.
“The Ghana Health Service remains committed to protecting and promoting the health and well-being of all Ghanaians. We appreciate the continued collaboration and support of our partners and stakeholders in safeguarding the health of our children and building a healthier nation,” the statement added.
