Orang Asli man dies in suspected tiger attack in Sungai Siput

An Orang Asli man was killed in what was believed to be a tiger attack while searching for rattan with a friend in the Korbu forest reserve near Kampung Takung, Pos Perwor, Sungai Siput, yesterday.

Lintang assemblyman Zolkafly Harun said the victim, Zamberi Angah, 42, was found dead in a bamboo thicket near a logging road, about 200m from where the attack was believed to have occurred.

He said the wildlife and national parks department (Perhilitan) received a report about the incident at about 4.30pm before members of its wildlife conservation unit, together with Sungai Siput Perhilitan personnel, rushed to the location.

“The victim was found at 6.58pm, with tiger paw prints and several other indications,” he said in a Facebook post.

Zolkafly said the authorities had advised members of the local community to temporarily avoid entering the forest area and urged them not to circulate photographs of the victim’s body out of respect for the family.

“The incident is deeply saddening and has deeply affected his family and the local community,” he said.

Zolkafly said he visited the victim’s wife and children and provided assistance to the family following their loss.
