Indonesia sets eight priorities for human rights-based development

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Human Rights Ministry has set eight national priority issues at a 2026 conference on human rights development planning to serve as the basis for rights-based development policies.

The priorities are rights to adequate living standards, a clean and healthy environment, education, equal access to basic services, development, protection from climate and disaster risks, food, and freedom of opinion and expression.

Opened on October 21, the conference brought together representatives of ministries, agencies, regional governments and civil society groups. The priorities were set at a plenary session attended by 62 participants.

In a statement in Jakarta on Friday, Deputy Human Rights Minister Mugiyanto said conference outcomes must be integrated into planning and budgeting documents of ministries, agencies and regional governments.

"What we have done these past two days was not in vain. The outcome is not just a document to be left on a shelf," Mugiyanto said when closing the conference.

The outcome document will be submitted to the national development planning minister and the home affairs minister for follow-up within their authorities.

"The outcome of our discussions in this forum will also be officially reported to the president. This means the voices you shared in this room will reach the highest decision-maker in the country," he said.

Mugiyanto stressed inter-agency coordination, saying human rights fulfillment requires multi-stakeholder involvement, and called on ministries, agencies and regional governments to turn the priorities into actionable programs.

He also said civil society input is vital to ensure development planning meets needs on the ground, and the ministry will keep communication and coordination channels open to support follow-up.
