Garbage Was Forced to Announce Free Mexico City Concert Early After Leak from City Government

Garbage were planning to announce a free concert in Mexico City today. Unfortunately, someone beat them to it: the very government hosting the show.
On Thursday, the Mexico City government revealed that the Shirley Manson-fronted band would perform at the city’s iconic Zócalo on November 14th. According to Mexican newspaper El Financiero, officials shared the announcement through the government’s official X account before deleting the post.
By then, however, the news was already out, prompting Garbage to confirm the concert themselves through an Instagram post “Well. This news got leaked so here we are – a little off balance and rushing to catch up,” the band wrote on the post’s caption. “We were going to announce this show tomorrow but someone has beaten us to it.”
Despite the unexpected reveal, Garbage were enthusiastic about the invitation. “We are so immensely proud and deeply honoured to have been invited by the Mexican Government to play in Mexico City on the 14th of November at Mexico City’s most prestigious venue – The Zócalo,” they continued.
The band also acknowledged the historical significance of the square, which served as a ceremonial center of the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan before the Spanish conquest.
Garbage described the concert as the culmination of a three-decade relationship with Mexican audiences, calling it “the absolute cherry on the top of what has been a passionate and 30 year long love affair.”
The free concert takes place Saturday, November 14th, at 8:00 p.m. local time. No tickets are required.
