The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, says the US$250,000 donation from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to support victims of Ghana’s June floods has arrived and been transferred to the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) for distribution.

In a post on Friday, October 16, Mr Ablakwa said the full donation, equivalent to about GH¢3 million, had been paid directly into the accounts of ADRA, which will administer the relief package.

He said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) agreed to select ADRA as an independent implementing partner.

According to the Minister, the arrangement is intended to ensure that the assistance reaches flood victims without government involvement in deciding who benefits.

“Government will not be involved in the selection of who benefits from the relief package,” he stated.

Mr Ablakwa made the announcement after inaugurating Ghana’s National Consultative Committee on Regional Integration (NCCRI) of ECOWAS.

The committee is mandated to oversee ECOWAS’s regional integration activities and social interventions in Ghana.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to serving Ghanaians with integrity and transparency.
