Police arrest three over armed robbery, cattle rustling in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with armed robbery, motorcycle theft and cattle rustling, recovering N1.93m, a Sharon vehicle, two motorcycles and a cow in separate operations across the state.

This was contained in a statement made available to journalists in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, on Saturday, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam.

SP Adam said the operational breakthroughs were recorded following sustained intelligence-led policing, proactive patrols and community partnership.

He said, “Operatives attached to Birniwa Division arrested a 40-year-old suspected armed robber, Amadu Garba of Isari settlement camp, Birniwa LGA.”

According to the PPRO, “police operatives attached to Birniwa Division, acting on credible intelligence and through sustained investigative efforts, have arrested one Amadu Garba and recovered the sum of One Million, Nine Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira.”

He stated that the suspect was being investigated in connection with a robbery that occurred on September 11, 2026, at about 0200hrs along the Garin Sule-Maskan Dare Market axis in Machina LGA of Yobe State.

The police spokesman said unsuspecting marketers were dispossessed of over N30m during the robbery operation.

He explained that, “The arrest and recovery followed painstaking investigation and intelligence gathering by the police, which led to the identification and apprehension of the suspect within Birniwa LGA.”

Adam added that the suspect and the exhibit would be handed over to the Yobe State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.

In another breakthrough, the PPRO said police personnel attached to Yalwawa Division, Dutse, arrested a suspected motorcycle thief and recovered one stolen motorcycle.

Accordingly, the PPRO revealed that “the arrest was made on 11th September 2026 at about 0620hrs after two motorcycles were reported stolen from a residence around Mechanic Village area of Dutse metropolis.”

Adam said, “Following the report, operatives commenced discreet investigation and intelligence-led tracing efforts, which eventually led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of one of the stolen motorcycles.”

“The suspect is currently in police custody and assisting investigators to recover the second motorcycle,” the PPRO added.

Similarly, Adam disclosed that operatives attached to Aujara Division, in collaboration with a Good Samaritan, arrested a suspected motorcycle snatcher and recovered a motorcycle.

He identified the suspect as Ado Sale, 55, of Kawari village, Ajingi LGA, Kano State, who was arrested on September 11 at about 1240hrs.

The PPRO said, “The victim, an Okada rider, had conveyed an unknown passenger from Jahun to Aujara town.”

He explained that the passenger handed the rider a polythene bag containing clothes and collected the motorcycle under the pretext that he wanted to pick up his sister.

Adam said the rider reported the matter to the police after the suspect failed to return as promised.

He said through prompt police intervention and assistance of a Good Samaritan, the suspect was apprehended and the motorcycle recovered.

On cattle rustling, the PPRO said police personnel attached to Maigatari Division intercepted a blue Sharon vehicle with registration number SA 535 TRN conveying one cow.

He said the interception occurred on September 10, 2026, at about 2300hrs, and the two occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush.

“The police operatives immediately secured the abandoned blue Sharon vehicle and one cow, which have been taken into custody as exhibits,” SP Adam said.

However, the Jigawa police mouthpiece said efforts were ongoing to trace and apprehend the fleeing suspects and establish the rightful ownership of the recovered animal and vehicle, adding that “the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.”

He therefore quoted the Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, as commending the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.

The CP, according to the PPRO, reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling criminality through intelligence-led strategies and community policing.
