Heavy rain triggers flood warnings in Krabi as power poles fall

Translate

KRABI — 18 October 2026, Krabi authorities have issued warnings over heavy rain, flash floods, forest runoff, landslides and rough seas after torrential rain hit the southern province on 19 October, flooding parts of the town and forcing tourists to leave a waterfall area.

At 16:00, heavy rain caused water at Huai To Waterfall to surge and turn discoloured, prompting warnings for people living near Khlong Yai to prepare for possible rising floodwaters. Tourists were ordered to leave the area immediately.

Meanwhile, three to four electricity poles reportedly fell across the road along the Huai Yung route, beyond Huai Yung Agricultural College in Nuea Khlong district, obstructing traffic. Several locations in Krabi town were also reported to be inundated.

Krabi Governor Angkoon Sila-thawakul has instructed relevant agencies to prepare for heavy to very heavy rainfall, in line with the Thai Meteorological Department’s warning No. 1 (260/2026), issued on 17 October. The forecast predicted continued rain across southern Thailand from 18-20 October, with heavy to very heavy rain in some areas.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant from 18-25 October, particularly in areas vulnerable to flash floods, forest runoff, standing floodwater and landslides. Coastal communities have also been warned of potentially strong winds and waves.

Provincial authorities have instructed agencies to issue advance warnings to at-risk communities and closely monitor rainfall and accumulated precipitation.

Tourists have been advised not to swim at beaches during rough sea conditions, while boat operators have been told to exercise extra caution. Natural attractions, especially waterfalls and caves, are to be monitored closely and closed immediately if conditions become dangerous.

Authorities have also been told to prepare disaster-response equipment and heavy machinery, with personnel assigned to monitor high-risk areas around the clock to ensure prompt assistance.

Residents are urged to follow official announcements and contact local authorities if they encounter a disaster or are affected by the severe weather.
