Will there be a Carrie season 2? Latest news and speculation

Translate

Buckle up for a brutal take on social media bullying in the form of Mike Flanagan's Carrie.

The horror titan's adaptation of Stephen King's first novel has just arrived on Prime Video, with all eight episodes of its first season launching.

The adaptation stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White and Samantha Sloyan as her mother Margaret, reframing the familiar high-school nightmare for the age of camera phones and social media.

With the series freshly launched, attention has already turned to whether the story will continue. Flanagan has spoken openly about a longer plan, describing the project as a trilogy. Here is what we know so far about a possible second season.

Carrie has not yet been renewed for a second season, but the show leaves the door open for more. Plus, showrunner Mike Flanagan is clearly keen to continue.

Speaking at the Toronto International Film Festival, he described his vision as "a wonderful three-step arc" and "a trilogy, really". That remains a creative ambition rather than a commissioned plan, and he has not set out how the three seasons would divide the story.

Prime Video has not announced a second season of Carrie, and no release window exists. The first season only premiered on 7 October 2026, so any decision on a renewal is likely to follow once the streamer has assessed viewing figures and critical reception.

If Prime Video does greenlight a follow-up, the gap between production start and streaming release would realistically point to a wait of well over a year. For now, any date is speculative, and this page will be updated as soon as official news emerges.

No cast has been confirmed for a potential second season – although it would make sense for Summer H Howell to return as Carrie White.

However, Flanagan has hinted that any continuation might widen its focus beyond Carrie herself. The series introduces other women with telekinetic abilities, which he has suggested opens up a "greater world" to explore, though no report confirms those characters would lead a second season.

Of course, there are some characters who may not survive the events of season 1 – so would not be able to return.

Flanagan has not laid out a plot for a second season, and he has stressed that the first run is designed to feel satisfying on its own whether or not the series continues. Rather than a specific storyline, he has pointed to the wider world around Carrie as the reason the story "need not be finite".

Because the first season adds a modern layer of cyberbullying and social media to King's original prom-night horror, a continuation could pursue the consequences of that reinvention. The introduction of other telekinetic women also offers a route to expand well beyond King's source material. Until Prime Video confirms a renewal, any direction remains speculative.
