Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, became emotional on Sunday during a congratulatory call from his nephew, Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, following his re-election.

In a video circulating online, the governor appeared visibly emotional as he spoke with the singer on the phone.

“Come and give me a hug,” Adeleke was heard saying during the call.

Davido had earlier celebrated his uncle’s victory in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election with a post on X.

“We did it Unc,” the singer wrote.

In a video accompanying the post, Davido was seen lying on the floor as one of his aides, Israel, hailed him, saying, “Congratulations boss.”

Davido actively campaigned for Adeleke throughout the election and repeatedly expressed confidence that the governor would secure a second term.

Adeleke was declared the winner of the election on Sunday after polling 511,067 votes across the state.

The incumbent governor, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, defeated his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes.

Adeleke won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji emerged victorious in 11.

The victory secured Adeleke a fresh mandate to govern Osun State for another four years.
