Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Jane Danson, who plays Leanne Battersby, has hinted that viewers of the ITV soap could see another side to Idris Nazir in the coming months.

Idris is currently stirring up life in Weatherfield with his ruthless behaviour, and has already clashed with the likes of Daniel Osbourne, Adam Barlow and Ronnie Bailey.

His antics also seem to be influencing Leanne, with whom he's been in a relationship with for the past few months. Leanne and Idris are currently locked in a scheme to convince Nick Tilsley to sell the Bistro to them, but they haven't succeeded yet.

Speaking exclusively to Inside Soap about Idris's future, Jane explained: "I think Leanne and Idris are quite similar. There's a heart in there somewhere, and also a conscience.

"Even though we've seen a side of Idris that's a bit smarmy and threatening, he's still a relatively new character and there are some redeeming sides to him we need to explore. I think that both characters are quite lost in some ways."

Praising new co-star Junade Khan, who plays Idris, she continued: "He's only been here for five or six months, but already the audience are kind of love or hate with the character, which is great.

"It's good for him to come in strong and busy. New characters bring new energy and for someone like Leanne, who's been there for a while, it gives her an extra layer as well. We're really enjoying it."

Despite seemingly being on a steady footing, Jane suggested that it could be an interesting move for Leanne and Idris to open up to each other about their backstories as their bond develops.

"I'd like to explore Idris finding out about Leanne's past, which is very dubious in parts," she said. "But also, we don't know much about his past or why he behaves the way he does. The thing about Idris is he's quite exciting, and is the complete opposite to Nick."
