Nidji hopes to bridge gap between fans

INDONESIAN rock band Nidji hopes music can bridge the gap and strengthen the brotherhood between Malaysia and Indonesia despite recent online tensions.

Speaking at a press conference for Nu Fest 2027, frontman Yusuf Ubay urged people not to focus on negative social media friction between netizens from both countries.

"We must never let differences tear us apart. Nidji's wish is for music to unite everyone, whether they are from Indonesia, Malaysia or anywhere else across the globe.

"Instead of dwelling on friction, let's look at the wonderful things we can build together."

He believes musicians have a unique duty to spread positivity and soothe tensions.

Addressing past grievances, Ubay expressed the band's wish to create fresh, beautiful memories with fans.

The online fallout stems from an Indonesian brand's offensive post and was fuelled by debates surrounding the 2026 FIFA Asean Cup.

Nidji will perform at the youth, culture and lifestyle festival Nu Fest 2027 at Stadium Merdeka on Jan 30.

The event's line-up includes Masdo, The Changcuters, Dukes, Lokarya, The Beretta's and Saja.
