2 doctors in 4-way battle for Bemban

Two doctors are contesting for the Bemban seat in the Melaka election, including former state opposition leader Dr Yadzil Yaakub, who is seeking a second term as the constituency’s assemblyman.
Yadzil, contesting for Perikatan Nasional, faces a four-cornered battle as he is challenged by Bersatu’s Rabaie Ab Hamid, Bersama’s Dr Solehin Saleh – the elder brother of Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh – and independent candidate Abd Halim Said.
Bemban is a mixed seat where Malay voters comprise 60% of the electorate, followed by Chinese (21%) and Indians (17%).
It used to be held by MCA since its creation in 2004 before DAP wrested the seat in 2018.
In the 2021 state election, PN won the seat through Yadzil Yaakub, then in Bersatu, who won with a slim majority of 328 votes.
Yadzil is now the Melaka Wawasan deputy chief having been sacked by Bersatu in February.
