Game of Thrones has entered a new era after the release of House of the Dragon, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, The Mad King stage play, and the upcoming Aegon's Conquest film. These adaptations of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire universe have taken the franchise in bold new directions and explored corners of Westeros many fans never thought we'd see come to life in live action.

The Seven Kingdoms has expanded well beyond film, television, and theater as well, with several video games released over the past few years as well. Game of Thrones: Conquest, Dragonfire, and Legends are among the top-rated mobile games on both Google Play and the App Store, with Dragonfire launching The Kingswood Hunt this week.

Further, Game of Thrones Kingsroad is one of the best open-world recreations of Westeros on offer, while the upcoming War for Westeros RTS offers players a chance to rewrite the ending of Game of Thrones altogether. However, one of the most compelling and beloved adaptations of the series just got a major update announcement, with A Song of Ice & Fire Tactics officially "up and running again."

A Song of Ice & Fire: Tactics is finally moving closer to release, and CMON's latest update is giving backers another look at how its ambitious Westeros skirmish game is coming together. The newly released Update #49 focuses heavily on the Fire and Blood content, which brings the Dance of the Dragons into the game with characters and scenarios inspired by the devastating Targaryen civil war.

Previously promoted as the King's Landing Skirmish Set, Fire and Blood features major figures from both sides of the conflict, including Rhaenyra Targaryen, Daemon Targaryen, and Alicent Hightower. The standalone set is built around encounters in and beneath the Red Keep, expanding Tactics beyond the Robert's Rebellion-era material that forms the core of its Battle of the Trident Starter Set.

CMON first revealed A Song of Ice & Fire: Tactics in late 2023 before launching its Gamefound crowdfunding campaign in February 2024. It's a reimagined and refined version of the enormous army battles we see in the larger A Song of Ice & Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game, with Tactics scaling the action down to smaller warbands and character-driven encounters. Players assemble groups of recognizable heroes and fighters from the franchise, then battle through strategy-based scenarios themed around major events.

It's a game designed for expansions and additional content to be released constantly, so alongside the Trident and Fire and Blood content, the campaign introduced additional locations, factions, characters, and reinforcement packs, essentially turning Tactics into a growing tour through different eras of Westerosi history.

The timing is notable, too, as CMON is continuing to support its wider A Song of Ice & Fire tabletop lineup. The recent Season 7 Summer Update brought another substantial round of balance changes to the original Tabletop Miniatures Game. Those adjustments don't directly affect Tactics, but together the updates show just how much CMON's Westeros tabletop universe continues to grow as Tactics approaches fulfillment.
