Timothée Chalamet Explains ‘Dune: Part Three’ Is “Its Own Thing” As He Praises Ending

As Denis Villeneuve prepares to release the conclusion of his Dune trilogy, Timothée Chalamet is praising the ending of the epic saga.

The 4x Oscar nominee recently teased that he’s “absolutely” satisfied with Villeneuve’s third installment in his big-screen adaptations of Frank Herbert’s science-fiction novels, which premieres Dec. 18 in theaters.

“It didn’t feel like the bar dropped at all, Denis just changed the location of the bar,” said Chalamet, who reprises his role as Paul Atreides, to The New York Times. “This movie is its own thing.”

Taking inspiration from Herbert’s Dune Messiah (1969), Chani star Zendaya noted of the sequel, “There’s a lot in this film that is very true to the source material, and there are departures.”

Robert Pattinson, who plays Scytale, added, “You got to be kind of crazy if you’re going to be picking fault with this one.

“The script was really cool, but it was quite complicated. And watching the film, it’s not about what I thought it was going to be about at all,” explained Pattinson. “It reads as much more of a grand political, moral fable, and the movie is so much more emotional. A lot of it is about parenting, and I just thought it was so moving.”

Set nearly two decades after Paul Atreides (Chalamet) seized control of the Imperium, Dune: Part Three sees the ruthless emperor confront the true cost of power as a sweeping conspiracy emerges, at which Chani (Zendaya) is at the center.
