Road safety collective responsibility – Special Marshal

Translate

A newly invested Honourary Special Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ifeanyi Thaddaus Ezeagu, has called on Nigerians to take collective responsibility for road safety, saying the protection of human lives should not be left to government agencies alone.

Ezeagu made the call on Saturday after his investiture as an Honourary Special Marshal in Sokoto by the Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC), pledging to continue supporting the corp in its efforts to reduce road crashes and protect motorists and other road users.

He said the commitment to saving lives required the cooperation of individuals and organisations, particularly in supporting road safety personnel who risk their lives to ensure order on highways.

“Saving lives is not just the duty of government; it is the collective effort of citizens and patriotic Nigerians who value life and understand its importance,” he said.

Ezeagu commended the Special Marshals for their dedication to road safety, noting that despite the dangers they face while controlling traffic and carrying out other duties, they remained committed to protecting lives.

He observed that the risks associated with their responsibilities had not discouraged them from serving the public, describing their commitment as deserving of greater encouragement and support.

“It is not easy to be on the road controlling traffic. Sometimes, they become victims of the dangers they face, yet they do not withdraw or become discouraged. They continue to ensure that lives are safe,” he said.

The honourary marshal attributed his recognition to his contributions to road safety over the years, expressing appreciation to the corps for finding him worthy of the honour.

He pledged to sustain his support for the agency within his capacity and respond whenever called upon to contribute to its activities.

Ezeagu also promised to continue encouraging road safety initiatives within his sphere of influence, while praying for strength and protection for personnel working to make Nigerian roads safer.

He said the recognition would further encourage him to support efforts aimed at preserving human lives.
