BATU KAWAN: A lorry driver escaped unhurt after a tree branch crashed onto the prime mover near Masjid Ar-Rayyan in Bandar Cassia today.

The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call regarding the incident along Jalan Batu Kawan at 2.10pm.

It is understood that the fallen branch, originating from a 20-foot Acacia tree with a circumference of 2.5m, crushed the front portion of the vehicle.

Rescuers confirmed that the 42-year-old lorry driver escaped unharmed from the ordeal.

A team of eight firefighters from the Batu Kawan fire and rescue station was dispatched to the scene to carry out clearing operations.

They used cutting equipment, with assistance from personnel and machinery from a neighbouring fire station and the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP).

The operation was called off at 3.51pm after the team ensured the road was safe for motorists.
