Como Break Into Top Four With Hard-Fought Win Over Venezia

Como moved back into the Serie A top four as they eked out a 1-0 victory at home over bottom side Venezia on Sunday for a fifth consecutive win across all competitions. The hosts dominated but needed a penalty to find the back of the net. Como captain Lucas Da Cunha converted in the 43rd minute for the Frenchman's first goal of the season. "This is the type of match we found hard to win last season," Da Cunha told DAZN. "This was tough but we won, and that reflects the progress we have made." Cesc Fabregas' side had slipped to fifth when AC Milan beat champions Inter on Saturday.
Como moved one point behind Roma, who beat Udinese 5-2 on Saturday.
They are two points behind Inter, who suffered their first loss of the season against AC Milan in the Milan derby, and leaders Lazio, who host Cagliari later on Sunday.
"This victory is really important in terms of our maturing process," said Fabregas.
"Our state of mind is irreproachable," added the 39-year-old Spaniard.
Como resume their Champions League campaign against Lens on Wednesday.
In a season in which Italian teams have struggled in Europe, Como have the best record among Serie A clubs in the Champions League, sitting ninth in the 36-team standings with six points from three games.
Como, who were playing in Italy's third division as recently as 2021, beat Manchester United 4-1 in their last European match.
