The eagerly anticipated new thriller series from Richard Armitage finally has a release date. The actor is set to star alongside Annabel Scholey in Winter, the first season of which arrives on ITV1 at 9pm on Wednesday, 30 September.

For those who can't wait for each episode to drop weekly, the full season will arrive on ITVX on the same day.

The synopsis teases: "Set in Bristol, the series follows Dr Ethan Winter, one of the most gifted pathologists of his generation, whose analytical ability and instinct for reading victims make him an invaluable asset to murder investigations.

"His unorthodox, rule-breaking methods bring him into partnership with DI Lauren Bell, a meticulous and driven detective. Together, they form a formidable team, combining forensic insight with sharp investigative work to solve complex cases.

"Across the six-part series, each episode presents a self-contained crime, while a deeper serial narrative unfolds: Winter is haunted by the unsolved murder of someone close to him and is conducting his own unofficial investigation — a dangerous pursuit that threatens to consume him."

The star-studded cast is rounded out by Jamie Kenna, Carlotta Banat, Josh Barrow, Adwoa Akoto, Jay Taylor, and Rishi Rian.

Deirdre Mullins, Ellis Elijah, and Evie Coles also star in the six-part series.

Speaking upon the project's announcement, Armitage said: "The team behind Winter are second to none, and the ambition of David Allison's scripts is very exciting and will attempt to shake up the genre that we've grown to love."

"Ethan Winter is a compelling character treading the line between diligent professional and reckless maverick. He has a painful secret and a fatalistic self-destruct button over which his finger constantly hovers."

Winter begins on ITV1 on Wednesday, 10 September, at 9pm. The full season will be available on ITVX on the same date.
