RM1.65mil durian orchard scam: CEO to be charged today

KUALA LUMPUR: A chief executive officer of a fruit and vegetable wholesale, import, and export company is expected to be charged in court today over a durian orchard purchase scam involving about RM1.65 million.
The suspect, in his 50s, was arrested after giving a statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya at 12pm yesterday.
A source said initial investigations revealed the suspect committed the offence in February 2024, but the purchase of the orchard never materialised.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrest.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code and the suspect will be charged at the Shah Alam Court in Selangor this morning.
It was previously reported that the MACC launched Op Kingfruit over a durian investment scam in Raub, Pahang, freezing bank accounts and seizing assets worth RM16.15 million.
