Susan Sarandon, Hannah Einbinder Detained at United Nations Netanyahu Protest

Susan Sarandon, Hannah Einbinder and Caleb Hearon on Thursday were reportedly among around 100 protesters taken into custody on Thursday in New York City ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressing the United Nations General Assembly.

Sarandon was detained, according to a number of outlets, including The New York Times, with photographers snapping images of the Oscar winner waiting to be transported from the protest.

Sarandon at the recent Venice Film Festival told a press conference she has lost out on movie roles due to her support of Palestine. Cynthia Nixon and Hacks star Einbinder were also among those taken into custody ahead of Netanyahu’s UK address, The New York Post reported, with a video of Einbinder being led away by police making the rounds on social media.

And the U.S. edition of The Sun tabloid, while including footage of Sarandon being taken into custody, also posted photos of Hearon and Einbinder being arrested near the UN headquarters. Einbinder recently defended fellow actor Mark Ruffalo against an accusation of “antisemitism” from Paramount Skydance over his opposition to the studio’s deal for Warner Bros. Discovery.

Representatives for Sarandon, Einbinder and Hearon could not be reached for comment on Thursday, and the New York Police Department also could not be contacted via its media phone line. Reports indicate the celebrities and politicians were detained by the NYPD for blocking traffic and roadways along First Avenue near 39th Street, just a few blocks south of the UN headquarters.
