The Board has appointed Ramesh Powar to the Men’s Selection Committee, while South Zone selector Pragyan Ojha will chair the panel based on seniority, having played the most Tests among its members.
Powar replaces Ajit Agarkar on the committee. He represented India in two Tests and 31 ODIs during his international career. Since retiring, he has held several prominent coaching roles, including head coach of the India women’s team, Mumbai and Gujarat, as well as bowling coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
During his tenure as head coach of the India women’s team, Powar guided it to an Asia Cup title and a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Meanwhile, Agarkar, who took over as chief selector in July 2023, played a key role in India’s on-field success during his tenure. India won the Asia Cup in 2023 and 2025, reached the 2023 ODI World Cup final, lifted the T20 World Cup in 2024 and 2026, and won the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Agarkar’s panel also played a crucial role in appointing Shubman Gill as India’s captain in both Tests and ODIs last year.
Earlier this year, the Agarkar-led panel appointed Shreyas Iyer as India’s T20I captain replacing Suryakumar Yadav, who had led India to the T20 World Cup title in March.
