EXCLUSIVE: New York State-based production, sales and distribution company The Dazey Phase has boarded Americanish creator and star Aizzah Fatima’s feature directorial debut Miss Christian Babe as a coproducer.

Set against the backdrop of Mississippi-set, coming-of-age tale Miss Christian Babe explores the experience of growing up Muslim in the American South, navigating questions of identity, faith, community and belonging.

The movie builds on Fatima’s work exploring underrepresented perspectives and the complexities of Muslim identity, which began with her hit one woman play Dirty Paki Lingerie, with characters from the show then spun into Americanish.

Fatima who co-wrote Americanish with Iman Zawahry, who directed, also co-starred as Sam Khan, a career focused PR exec living with her equally driven sister Maryam in Queens, where they are joined by newly immigrated cousin Ameera. After a festival run, the film was acquired by Sony International.

The new film taps into Fatima’s teenage experiences growing up in Mississippi before heading to New York.

“I grew up Muslim in small-town Mississippi so obviously that meant church on Sundays and pageants on Saturdays. It was absurd, and it was home. I’d never seen that world on screen, and am thrilled to bring it to life,” said Fatima.

The Dazey Phase’s co-head Jake Casey (Hallowarrior) and Head of Business and Strategy Danielle Benedict (Heightened Scrutiny) are on board as producers alongside Rohi Mirza Pandya (Hiding Divya).

Mirza Pandya, one of the founders of Box Office Guru Media, brings more than two decades of experience in film marketing, audience strategy and championing culturally resonant stories.

“I’m excited to partner with Aizzah and The Dazey Phase on a story that brings a fresh perspective to the screen,” she said. “Miss Christian Babe has the opportunity to connect with audiences through its distinctive cultural lens and its deeply human themes.”

Founded by Syracuse, New York natives Jake and Eva Casey, The Dazey Phase focuses on inclusive and responsible storytelling from a unique perspective, with recent projects including Hallowarrior (Shudder), Heightened Scrutiny (Sundance 2025) and Desire Lines (Sundance 2024).

“I’m thrilled to help bring Aizzah’s vision to life. Her storytelling is something that really excites me; it’s vivid, specific, and personal,” said Jake Casey.
