Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has unveiled the lineup of performers scheduled to entertain mourners during a candle-lighting ceremony honouring the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at Uhuru Park on Friday, October 2, 2026.

The event will combine prayers, music and remembrance as supporters and members of the public gather to mark one year since Raila’s death.

Jalang’o said the prayers will be led by Pastor Robert Burale, while gospel musician Solomon Mkubwa will also perform during the ceremony.

“Prayers will be led by Pastor Burale; we have some amazing performances from Solomon Mkubwa, giving us great gospel music,” Jalang’o said.

Performers lined up for the evening

Jalang’o said the programme will also feature Emmanuel Musili, popularly associated with the song “Lero ni Lero,” as well as singer Elisha Toto.

The evening will culminate with a performance by popular musician Prince Indah, whom Jalang’o described as the artiste who will crown the night’s entertainment.

“Then we will have Emmanuel Musili, of Lero ni Lero, and then Elisha Toto will also be performing,” Jalang’o said.

He added:

“But to crown it all, the king himself, Prince Indah, will also be performing this evening. Inaitwa Doba ya Baba. So make sure that you come.”

October commemorations for Raila

The Uhuru Park candle-lighting ceremony forms part of a broader programme planned to mark the first anniversary of Raila’s death.

Jalang’o has referred to the October programme as “Mwezi wa Baba”, with the candle-lighting ceremony identified as the first major event in a month of activities dedicated to remembering the former Prime Minister.

The programme is expected to include memorial activities in different parts of the country before culminating in a larger Nairobi gathering at Jacaranda Grounds on October 31.

Raila died on October 15, 2025, aged 80, while receiving medical treatment in India. He was later buried at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County.

Nationwide candle-lighting

The Orange Democratic Movement has also announced a nationwide candle-lighting exercise for October 2, with members of the public encouraged to light candles in memory of Raila.

The Uhuru Park gathering is expected to provide a central venue for those wishing to participate in the Nairobi commemoration, combining prayers, music and remembrance.
