Despite calling it “one of the happiest songs on the album,” Beatrice Laus, who performs as beabadoobee, says “Memories” comes from a much more bittersweet place. Sonically, the track lives up to its title with a warm, rain-streaked nostalgia: the kind of song that feels made for driving with the windows down while traffic lights smear across cracked wet pavement. Its brightness is softened by a melancholy undercurrent, echoing Bea’s own description of “clinging onto ideas that should make me happy but actually make me feel sad, because I wish they were just moments I lived in forever.”
