KUALA LUMPUR: Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, the 16-year-old student who died following an incident at a school in Yong Peng, was academically strong, had no disciplinary issues and was well-liked by her teachers and friends.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek said this was based on the Form Four student's school records and feedback from those who knew her.

"Based on the school's records, she had very good academic achievements and did not have any disciplinary issues.

"Feedback from the school also described her as a good student who was well-liked by her teachers and friends," she told a press conference today.

Fadhlina said Irene's death was deeply felt not only by her family but also by the school community.
