Man charged with murder after alleged assault in Tasmania's north
A 42-year-old man has been charged with murder after allegedly assaulting a man at a house in Tasmania's north.
Tasmania Police said shortly after 8.30am on Thursday, emergency services attended a private residence following reports that a man had been assaulted at Railton, south of Devonport.
The alleged offender had left the scene and was arrested at a nearby location a short time later, police said in a statement.
Police said the victim and offender were known to each other, and there was no ongoing threat to the wider community.
On Thursday night, police said the man had been charged with murder after the 48-year-old victim, a man from Railton, died at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
The man was set to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court on Thursday night.
