The Dropout's Amanda Seyfried Reacts to Elizabeth Holmes Entering Prison

Amanda Seyfried can't believe the latest development in Elizabeth Holmes' life.

The disgraced Theranos founder, who is three years into an 11-year prison sentence for defrauding investors with her failed blood-testing start-up, is scheduled to be transferred to a halfway house next year, according to a letter sent to victims of her crime, obtained by The New York Times. And the actress who played her in The Dropout had a one-word response to the news.

Indeed, under Good Morning America anchor Rebecca Jarvis' Sept. 23 Instagram post sharing Holmes' update, Seyfried commented, "Woah!!!!"

Holmes is being moved from F.P.C. Bryan, a minimum-security federal prison approximately 100 miles northeast of Austin, Texas, to Austin Transitional Center on Aug. 23, 2027, according to the letter.

E! News has reached out to F.P.C. Bryan, Austin Transitional Center and Holmes' attorney for comment and has not yet heard back.

Bureau of Prisons spokesperson Scott Taylor told NBC News his department could not provide information on Holmes' confinement, including release plans, citing safety, security and a Bureau of Prisons policy.

The biotech entrepreneur was found guilty in 2022 of one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and three counts of wire fraud for allegedly deceiving Theranos investors out of millions of dollars. (Holmes was also found not guilty of the second count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and the jury reached no verdict on three more counts of wire fraud.)

She and business partner and ex Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani were ordered to pay 12 victims a total of $452 million in restitution. (For his part, Balwani is serving a 12-year sentence at FCI Terminal Island in San Pedro, Calif.)

For Seyfried—who won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the 2022 Emmys for the Hulu show—the guilty verdict left her with mixed feelings since Holmes had to leave behind her and Billy Evans' two young children.

"I feel for those kids," the Mamma Mia actress said on Good Morning America in May 2023. "There's two kids that are hanging in the balance here, as a parent I'm just like—as a mom—I don't know."

But when it comes to Holmes herself, she added, "Life's not fair, but in a lot of ways, it's fair, for her in particular."
