Coca-Cola has a gut feeling it can take on Poppi and Olipop

Coca-Cola (KO) is adding prebiotic fiber to new versions of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Sprite Zero Sugar, and Fresca, extending the beverage giant's push into better-for-you sodas beyond the Simply Pop brand. Each new version contains 6 grams of prebiotic fiber and zero sugar.
The drinks pair familiar flavors with an added digestive-health component. Coca-Cola (KO) noted the products retain Coke’s classic cola flavor, Sprite’s crisp lemon-lime taste, and Fresca’s citrus character, while supporting digestive health.
The Atlanta-based company plans to begin a limited regional pilot in late October 2026 in parts of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The pilot will be used to evaluate consumer response to the prebiotic-packed versions of well-known sodas. The early reaction on consumer review sites to the prebiotic plan has been positive.
The principal competitors in the prebiotic soda field are Olipop and Poppi, the brands that helped establish the category. Olipop launched in 2018, founded by Ben Goodwin and David Lester. Its initial retail rollout began in early 2019, with three flavors (Ginger Lemon, Strawberry Vanilla, and Cinnamon Cola) in 40 health-food stores across Northern California. Poppi launched under its current name in 2020. It was a rebrand of Mother Beverage, which Allison and Stephen Ellsworth created in 2016. Poppi now belongs to PepsiCo (PEP), which acquired it in 2025. Meanwhile, Coca-Cola (KO) first entered the growing category through the internal creation of the Simply Pop brand in 2025.
