[UPDATED] PN activities suspended, not deregistered - RoS

KUALA LUMPUR: The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has suspended all activities of Perikatan Nasional (PN) effective yesterday, following a notice issued to the coalition seeking an explanation over a complaint lodged by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

RoS said the suspension was made under subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966 (Act 832), following the notice issued to PN on Sept 22.

However, the department stressed that the notice was not a decision to cancel PN's registration, but was issued to give the coalition a reasonable period to respond to the complaint.

"RoS issued a notice under subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966 (Act 832) dated Sept 22, 2026, and a reasonable period was given to PN to respond to the notice.

"The notice sought an explanation from PN regarding the complaint lodged by Bersatu with RoS and was not a decision to cancel its registration," it said in a statement today.

RoS said following the notice, it also issued a suspension order on all PN activities effective Sept 23.

It said this was intended to safeguard the interests of the organisation from continuing to breach its constitution.

"RoS urges all parties to refer to official information issued by the department and avoid speculation or the dissemination of unverified information that could cause confusion among the public," it said.

Yesterday, PN confirmed receiving the RoS notice dated Sept 22, which gave the coalition 30 days to explain why its registration should not be cancelled.

A source confirmed that the notice was conveyed to the PN chairman, PN secretary-general and all component parties.

BH also understands that several PN component parties were instructed not to use the coalition's name and logo in any activities until the Registrar of Societies makes a final decision.

RoS had previously confirmed receiving a formal complaint from Bersatu on Aug 11, including allegations that the party was not involved in the PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16 and issues concerning its membership status in the coalition.

Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was also reported to have called on RoS to make an immediate decision on the complaints lodged by the party, including allegations of eight breaches by the PN leadership.
