Thuram happy with Inter reaction and praise for Bonny

Marcus Thuram insists Inter’s comebacks prove they ‘are a team that know how to react’ and can rely on players off the bench like Ange-Yoan Bonny after beating Udinese 5-3.

This felt almost like a return to the old ‘Pazza Inter’ days, when the club was called ‘crazy’ for its chaotic nature in Serie A and Europe.

For the second league match in a row, they were trailing 2-0 at home, only to turn it around for a victory.

After the 3-2 against Napoli, this time they swept Udinese aside 5-3 in a game with eight different goal names on the scoresheet, as Carlos Augusto, Nicolò Barella, Marcus Thuram, Francesco Pio Esposito and Ange-Yoan Bonny secured success.

“I don’t think we need to be shaken up. We played many games, sometimes we can get the approach wrong, but we’ve proved that we are a team that know how to react,” Thuram told Sky Sport Italia.

“We know a game lasts over 90 minutes, that there was a long time left and we could turn it around, so that’s what we did.”

On Saturday there is a Scudetto showdown coming up against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, between the only two teams with a 100 per cent record after four rounds.

“We have 19 rivals that we need to get results against this season, and Roma are among them, so we’ve got to go there and do what needs to be done.”

Bonny came off the bench to score this evening and Thuram had special words of praise for his teammate.

“This is his second season here, he also played in the World Cup, so has more experience now. He always works hard and gives his contribution, I think he is one of the best players in Serie A,” said Thuram.

The sluggish start could be traced back to distraction from the midweek 2-1 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid, a game with some individual howlers that proved very costly indeed.

They had also gone 2-0 down in that match at the Bernabeu, so this is a recurring theme for Inter.

“Like last season, we are not just 11 players, but a whole squad ready to do the job when needed,” replied Bonny.

“Roma are an impressive team, it’ll be a difficult match, we have the same objectives as always, which is to win the game.”
