Recognition for the Heart Centre

The Sultan Idris Shah Hospital (HSIS) Heart Centre in Serdang handled 69 cardiac intervention cases last Friday, or 45 per cent of all cases recorded at the Health Ministry's 10 centres.

Last Friday's high-intensity operation involved nearly 80 healthcare personnel, including 14 cardiologists, six medical officers, 10 radiographers and 40 nurses and healthcare assistants, said the ministry.

Of the 69 cases, 29 were emergency cases while the rest were elective.

They included four primary percutaneous coronary intervention procedures requiring immediate action to save heart attack patients.

The centre also handled 13 complex coronary cases using intravascular ultrasound technology, allowing for more precise and safer treatments.

The ministry has expressed its appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for recognising the HSIS Heart Centre as a "Cardiac Centre of Excellence".

The ministry said the achievement reflected the strong commitment, efficiency and teamwork of the HSIS cardiology team in providing high-quality cardiac care quickly, safely and effectively.

Daily operations typically run from 8am to 6pm, with all seven cardiac catheterisation laboratories (cath labs) operating at full capacity.

Four cath labs continue operating after office hours to clear the remaining cases awaiting treatment.
