Adam Carter Rehmeier Sets New Thriller ‘Seeker’; Alex Lebovici, Adam McKay & Noah Centineo Among Producers

EXCLUSIVE: Adam Carter Rehmeier, the filmmaker behind cult Sundance comedy Dinner in America, has signed on to direct Seeker, a darkly comedic thriller written by Michael Learner.

Seeker follows Grant, a man haunted by the unexplained disappearance of his fiancée five years earlier. Now an Uber driver, his life is upended when he picks up a passenger he becomes convinced was responsible for her disappearance. The film begins as a tense game of cat and mouse before spiraling into something far stranger, more disturbing, and deeply unhinged.

Alex Lebovici (Barbarian) and Learner of Hammerstone Studios will produce alongside Oscar winner Adam McKay (Don’t Look Up) and two-time Emmy nominee Todd Schulman (The Chair Company) at HyperObject Industries and Noah Centineo and Enzo Marc of Arkhum Productions, who are coming off producing Netflix and Legendary’s live-action Gundam movie, in which Centineo stars opposite Sydney Sweeney.

Hammerstone Studios is financing the project with Script 2 Screen. Ibrahim Mohammed, Chase Vergari, Karina Manashil, Alex Kaplunov and David Goldman are exec producers.

Learner, who serves as Head of Development at Hammerstone, comes to Seeker with producing credits including By Any Means, Iconoclast, Little One and Slime. He told us, “With Seeker, I wanted to write something as propulsive and unpredictable as possible, while grounded in a personal story about obsession and loss. Adam has such a singular voice as a filmmaker and an incredible ability to find humanity in his characters. I can’t imagine a better filmmaker to bring Seeker to life.”

The director of three critically acclaimed indie features, Rehmeier is coming off Carolina Caroline, a crime thriller starring Samara Weaving and Kyle Gallner that released with Magnolia Pictures this summer after premiering at last year’s Toronto Film Festival. Prior to that, he helmed Dinner in America, also starring Gallner, and the coming-of-age comedy Snack Shack, starring Conor Sherry and Gabriel LaBelle. Paramount’s Republic Pictures released the latter.

Hammerstone is currently in theaters with By Any Means, a Civil Rights-era thriller for Paramount starring Yahya Abdul Mateen II and Mark Wahlberg that they financed and produced. They’re also known for projects like Zach Cregger’s horror breakout Barbarian, Bill & Ted Face the Music, Flight Risk and Don’t Move. Their upcoming slate includes Tom McCarthy’s A Statement, starring Paul Rudd and Paul Giamatti, and the dark comedy Little One, produced alongside Cregger and Roy Lee.

HyperObject Industries is known for films like McKay’s Oscar-nominated Don’t Look Up, The Menu and Fresh, as well as such acclaimed series as Succession and The Chair Company. Among their upcoming films is John Lee Hancock’s Netflix courtroom drama surrounding U.S. chemical company Monsanto. Recently, their exec Betsy Koch produced Panos Cosmatos’ vampire horror thriller Flesh of the Gods, starring Kristen Stewart and Wagner Moura. Upcoming, Schulman and McKay are producing Michael Shanks’ Black List sci-fi thriller Hotel Hotel Hotel Hotel for A24, as well as Amazon MGM’s The Parlay, reteaming Judas and the Black Messiah‘s Shaka King and Daniel Kaluuya.

Arkhum Productions was founded by actor/producer Centineo and Marc in 2023. The company’s other recent projects include Union County (directed by Adam Meeks), Iconoclast (directed by Gabriel Basso), Our Hero Balthazar (directed by Oscar Boyson) and Casey Affleck’s Company, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month.
